It’s not often you think “eco” when you hear the word “motor sport” mentioned, so it came as a bit of a surprise to me, “3co’s virtual tree planter”, that American stock car racing giants NASCAR have a website devoted to the eco side of the sport.
NASCAR are planting tree’s in an effort to reduce their rather hefty carbon footprint. At the time of writing, their site shows they have planted a whopping 181,728 trees! This number of trees has offset all NASCAR racing at each track for the next 18 years. I’m pleased to say however that it doesn’t end there. They have the largest recycling program in sports, have reduced emissions from the race cars by 20% and are the sports leader in renewable energy.
Motor sports racing traditionally has an image of big, fast, loud, petrol consuming engines and NASCAR perhaps displays this image to the world more than any other, so it’s good to see they’re making more than a token effort to show that they’re serious about making a difference. If you feel inspired about offsetting some of your carbon usage and feel like planting a few trees, why not send us an email and we’ll let you know how we can help.
